About

Good Tape’s mission is to let you focus on what matters most by providing the best transcription service possible. We offer a simple and user-friendly path to turning audio files into precisely transcribed text. Our tech-driven solution saves hours of tedious work, allowing you to use that time to, hopefully, make the world a better place.

Contact us

We are building Good Tape from Copenhagen, Denmark.
You can contact us by sending an email to yourfriends@goodtape.io.

We're real people, and we're here to help you get the most out of Good Tape. So please let us know how we can help, and we will do our very best.

Who is it for, and how do I use it?

Good Tape has been built with journalists in mind. It is optimized for transcribing interviews, but is being used across various industries such as marketing, business consultancy, research, and video production.

We absolutely love the service ourselves, and we think you will too. But don't take our word for it, try it out:

  • Upload any audio file - we accept most types, but prefer .mp3s
  • Wait. Hopefully not long, but at times our servers have a lot to do.
  • Receive three files: a .txt file without time codes, a .txt file with time codes, and an .srt file for those who work with subtitles.

I’m a journalist. Can I trust you with recordings of my sources?

Your tape is transferred fully encrypted, stays within the European Union, and is deleted immediately after transcription.

If you are a journalist and have more questions, read more on our security page. Our privacy policy contains all legal information on cookies etc.

How does the actual translation work?

Good Tape is built on OpenAI's AI model called Whisper. We didn't invent artificial intelligence, but we saw a user case and built a product to make the technology accessible in a secure and easy way. (Hopefully stating the obvious, but just in case: your recordings will not be used to train AI models).

How is this service free?

It costs money to run a service like this, and to keep it running, we need to generate revenue. We offer Good Tape on a freemium model. This means that we will continue to have a great free version for private and casual users.

If you want to use us professionally on a steady basis, we ask you or your boss to help us pay the bills. We are confident that we will provide so much value and save you so many hours of work, that most users will have no problem with this.

The paid plan builds on top of the free version. It offers more security, higher speed, better convenience and, in time, associated services for journalists and other professionals.

Who am I sending my tape to?

That’s a great question.

Good Tape ApS is a Danish private limited company owned by Zetland ApS, a well-renowned Danish digital newspaper. We built Good Tape because we were tired of expensive corporate transcription services that were great in English, but less so in other languages. They all sucked at Danish.

When we initially demoed Good Tape at Zetland, the journalists shouted in unanimous joy. That's when we decided to boost the security, bolster our bandwidth, and begin to offer the product to everyone else.

Our company registration number is DK43724509, and we share an office with our parent company in an old warehouse near the Copenhagen harbor: Njalsgade 19D, DK-2300 Copenhagen S.

These lines were written by a real(ly) human being, who is also the CEO of both Zetland ApS and Good Tape ApS. My name is Tav Klitgaard, and I salute you for having read this long text. Well done fellow human.
